On October 5, 2012, representatives from Air India took delivery of the airline carriers first Boeing Co 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft has been manufactured in South Carolina, and is the first of its kind to be manufactured outside Boeing Commercial Airplane’s headquarters in Washington.

The production on the  787 line of airplanes had begun in the summer of 2011, and the first plane was completed in the month of April. The delivery of the aircraft was delayed for years due to supply chain problems and other production issues. Further delays took place as talks between Boeing and the Indian government continued, in regards to compensation for the production problems which were being faced.
