A container of an alkaline detergent exploded and injured 14 people October 20, 2012. The container belonged to a commuter and the injured have sustained minor injuries.
The police and fire-fighters stated that the incident occurred on the Marunouchi Line as the train entered in to Hongo-sanchome station in Bunkyo Ward at 12:20 am. As the doors of the train opened, the container which was being carried by a female passenger exploded, and this spread panic among other passengers. The woman stated that she had been given a powerful liquid detergent from the restaurant where she worked . According to reports, the explosion could have taken place as the detergent was shaken on the train during the journey.
