Kobo Inc. is a Rakuten’s subsidiary which has started selling its new Kobo Glo eReader. The device has been priced at 7,980 yen and combines an E Ink Corporation display with front lighting.

The device allows for comfortable reading in any lighting condition, whether in bright sunlight or in a dimly lit bedroom. The eReader has a micro-SD slot slot with expandable memory of up to 32 GB and enhanced performance, allowing for quick page turning.

The Kobo Glo is also a good device to read high capacity comic books, which optimizes for displaying Japanese characters and utilizes high quality Japanese fonts developed by Morisawa Inc. This creates the same reading experience as printed paper.

The device can be purchased through Rakuten’s online shopping mall Rakuten Ichiba, as well as other leading electronics retailers. To start off sales for its eReader in book stores, Kobo Inc has joined hands with Top Culture Co. to market the Kobo Touch and Kobo Glo. Top Culture Co operates in 75 stores in Japan, especially in the areas of Shinetsu and Kanto. This also provides an opportunity for consumers to gets a feel of the device before they go in for them.
