US-based car manufacturer General Motors, on February 1, 2013, launched a compact sedan named Sail for the Indian market, which has been priced between Rs. 4.99 lakh to Rs. 7.51 lakh ex-showroom price New Delhi.
The new sedan has been launched in the same segment as Maruti Suzuki’s Swift Dzire, which has been catching on quite well. The company will also be launching petrol variants of the sedan, which will be priced between Rs. 4.99 lakh to Rs. 6.41 lakh, whereas the diesel variants will be priced between Rs. 6.29 to Rs. 7.51 lakh .
The new sedan is based on the Sail UVA hatchback and competes with the vehicles like the Toyota Etios, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Classic, Mahindra Verito and Tata Indigo eCS. Just like the hatchback, the new vehicle will have ample space and also one of the largest boot capacities, providing for 370 liters of storage. The sedan has been designed based on the global passenger car platform and is meant for the emerging markets.
The Sail sedan is considered to be one of the fastest selling cars in the Chinese market with an annual sales of more than half a million units. In India the Sail is positioned in the entry-level sedan segment as well.
