India is considered to be one of the largest producers of milk in the world and on February 5, 2013 the country expressed an interest in exporting skimmed milk powder to Germany, among other farm items. India has also asked Germany to invest in India’s agriculture and food processing sector.
Tariq Anwar, the minster of state for agriculture and food processing industries in India, has discussed exporting these products in a meeting with the delegation of Parliamentarians in Germany on February 5, 2013. Anwar also highlighted that India has the potential to export farm items like banana, coconuts, cashew nuts, maize flour and wheat.
The minister added, “Germany may like to consider the possibility of sourcing these items from India.” Anwar mentioned that India is keen on exporting skimmed milk powder to European countries as it is the largest producer of milk in the world. Moreover, milk production in India for the current year has been impressive till date.
The minister has also invited German industries to invest in the food processing sector. India has also become one of the most preferred investment destinations in the world. The Asian country has attracted Food Direct Investment of about USD 50 billion in the year 2011-12.
