The mother of the late air-hostess Geetika Sharma has committed suicide on February 15, 2013, in New Delhi. Geetika's mother ended her life six months after the suicide of her daughter, who alleged harassment by former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda.
Geetika's mother was in her 50's and hung herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Ashok Vihar in North-West Delhi. Geetika's relatives claimed that her mother was suffering from depression ever since the death of her daughter. Police personnel who rushed to the residence said that they did not find a suicide note.
Geetika had committed suicide in the month of August 2012 and had said that Kanda had harassed her. At present, Kanda is in jail in connection with the case. The 23-year-old air-hostess was employed with the MDLR airlines which is now de-functional.
Geetika was found dead on August 5, 2012 at her residence in North-West Delhi. During the police inquiry, it was found that Geetika and her family were very well known to Kanda and his wife. Both the families had gone on tours and pilgrimages in India as well.
This new story comes in light of social outrage that has swept India, after the brutal gang rape and subsequent death of a young girl in the capital.
