After the execution of militant Afzal Guru, the government of India is not likely to hand over his body to his family. Guru has already been buried in Tihar jail and his family had demanded to hand over his body to them.
A senior official from the home ministry said that a final decision on the matter will be taken soon and the government of Jammu and Kashmir would be informed about it. The state government forwarded a letter sent by Tabassum, the wife of Guru, to the commissioner of Baramulla in North Kashmir.
The wife of the Parliament attack convict had demanded for the body of her husband in the letter. An official from the home ministry said that Guru has been buried in Tihar jail complex, which is according to the prison manual. The government of India does not have any plans to hand over the body, as they are considering various aspects of the situation, which includes the law and order of the state.
Afzal was executed on February 9, 2013 and Kashmir Valley was shrouded in rumors on February 17, 2013, that Guru’s body has arrived and was being buried in darkness. The news had also spread across all the social networking sites. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had expressed his displeasure to the home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, for the delay in informing Guru’s family.
