An officer from the Jalangi Police station said, “We have received information of the incident, but no complaint has been registered so far”. The place is 200 Km from Kolkata and the incident occurred when the worker arrived at his office on Thursday, February 21, 2013.

Omar narrated that he was sitting in the office when some Trinamool Congress workers came and asked him why he was absent from the office on February 20, 2013 and before he could reply, they chopped off a major part of his left ear with a knife.

At present, Omar is undergoing treatment in a hospital and said that he will file a police complaint after he is discharged. A Congress Parliamentarian from the Berhampore constituency, Adhir Chowdhury, criticized the incident and has demanded immediate action against the guilty. Chowdhury added that the Trinamool Congress had vowed to keep the strikers away and that they had become goons, who have now gone out of control.
