The 41st Rose Festival celebrated its final day at the Rose Garden in Chandigarh on Sunday, February 24, 2013. Throngs of people flocked to the festival on its concluding day, causing police to close the road between Rose Garden and Leisure Valley to manage crowd control.
Cultural functions, competitions and performances marked the final day of the three-day festival, with mayor Subhash Chawla distributing prizes to the winners of the various events. Around 500 children were seen to be participating in a painting competition organised in the Government Museum and Art Gallery.
Antakshari competitions took place in four groups with Azad and Varsha from Government College of Education, Sector 20 bagging the first prize. Sandeep Kaur from Sector 34 won the Flower Hat Competition. The evening’s festivities saw Bollywood singer Kunal Ganjawala belt out his hit numbers at the Leisure Valley.
The celebrations at the festival were marred during the first two days by incessant and unexpected rainfall, which destroyed the flowers as well as the decorations. BJP councilor Arun Sood, who was part of the organizing committee, stated that if the prediction of the Met Department was taken into consideration before finalizing the dates, the damage could have been avoided. Overall it was a great day for families as they took in the sights and sounds at the Chandigarh Rose Festival.
