GSMA has announced the 18th Annual Global Mobile Awards at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2013 event. This was followed by an honor ceremony hosted by writer, director and comedian David Walliams. There were also other individuals who made an appearance, including representatives from Temmap, Myriad and McAfee.

The awards were co-presented by Fortune, Time and CNBC media partners, who joined Walliams onstage, along with GSMA’s CEO and the judging panel. This also gives the governments from across the globe recognition for mobile technology leadership and innovation. The actual list of Global Mobile winners is too long to be detailed, but some of the notable award designations include Best Mobile Enabled Consumer Electronic Devices, which went to Samsung for its Galaxy camera.

The other designations include, Best Mobile App for Consumers,which went to Facebook, Best Smartphone, which went to Samsung’s Galaxy S III, Best Mobile Tablet to ASUS/Google for the Nexus 7 and Device Manufacturer of The Year was taken by Samsung.

CEO John Hoffman said that through these awards they were proud to shine a light on the mobile industry’s many innovators and leaders from all the corners of the world. This year the new categories has reflected the reach of the industry in many new sectors.
