LPG connection holders have been asked by oil companies in India to link their Aadhaar card numbers to their respective bank accounts. If the LPG connection holders fail to do so, then they stand to lose the subsidy amount.
The authorities have also planned to give Aadhaar card machines to oil companies so as to accelerate the process of enrolling LPG customers. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited will get 5 machines while Hindustan Petroleum will get 10.
An official from BPCL said that Aadhar card holders have to approach their respective banks to get their Aadhaar cards seeded to their bank accounts, so that the subsidy on LPG cylinders can be refunded to their banks accounts. The official said, “The district administration has proposed additional Aadhaar enrollment centers exclusively for LPG customers. The Aadhaar machines given to BPCL distributors will only enroll customers in whose names the connections are and not their family members”.
No deadline has been set for connecting the Aadhaar numbers to bank accounts in the city of Pune in Maharashtra, but card holders have been asked to link them at the earliest, as the other cities have already received their deadlines. An official from HPCL said that they have not received any communication regarding the deadline for seeding.
