Popular beverage manufacturer Coca-Cola might soon increase the availability of low or no calorie beverages in the Chinese market. Apart from new products, the company will continue to emphasize its marketing of carbonated drinks in the second and third quarter in second- and third-tier cities.
The president of Coca-Cola International Ahmet Bozer said that customers in the central and western region of China will have more opportunities to purchase new Coke Zero and Coke Light, apart from the sugared version of the drink. Bozer also spoke about visiting Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in western China and Zhengzhoum, Henan province in the central region of the country.
The president said that new low calorie drinks are being introduced to support physical activity programs and not being advertised to children under the age of 12 years. Bozer also pointed out that obesity is one of the most challenging health issues in the world.
The sales of Coca-Cola grew by 1 percent in the first quarter due to bad weather and economic slowdown. On the other hand, the company is pleased with the performance of its carbonated and juice categories and also considers the slowdown to be only temporary.
