In the infamous Geetika Sharma case, a court in Delhi framed charges against former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda on May 10, 2013. Kanda is being charged with rape and unnatural sex. On the contrary, the police has given a clean chit to Kanda earlier, in the charges of sexual abuse.
The court on Friday said that the sexual exploitation of Geetika by the accused might have forced her to kill herself. With these recent charges against Kanda and his close aide Aruna Chadha, the court also framed charges of abetment of suicide, forgery with intention to cheat and harm reputation and criminal conspiracy. The two accused have also been charged for hacking the computer records related to the victim.
Geetika was a former air hostess and family of the victim has alleged that she committed suicide due to sexual exploitation by Kanda. Even the Delhi Police was left embarrassed when the court found that, due to the political influence of Kanda, he had manipulated the police investigation.
District Judge S. K. Sarvaria said that the investigation has been tainted and that the former politician is still influencing the criminal justice administration by employing various means. The case will now be tried by the fast-track court which deals exclusively with such cases.
