Indian dairy products manufacturing giant Amul, brand under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation said on June 6, 2013, that it will begin manufacturing a few of its dairy products in the US over the next 6 to 8 months.
The recent move is being viewed as just an initial dry run for the company, which will set up its own manufacturing facility in the US at some point in the future. R S Sodhi, Managing Director of GCMMF said that the Amul Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union, through a third party agreement with an existing manufacturing plant owner, will commence production of a few dairy products in a plant in New Jersey.
Sodhi added, “The production is expected to commence in next six to eight months, and thereafter the federation will undertake marketing of the dairy products range there”. The ADCMPU is one of the 16 milk producers union on board of the federation. The federation is looking to multiple its sales in the key market in the future.
With the recent arrangement in place, it is expected that the sales might increase in the US. At first, Amul will be manufacturing products like ghee and paneer and later on other products will be introduced as well.
