After the long wait, Ford India has finally launched its much-awaited EcoSport, which is a compact sports utility vehicle. The new car has been priced at Rs. 5.59 lakh onwards (ex-showroom price Delhi) for the petrol variant. The diesel variant of EcoSport starts from Rs. 6.69 lakh onwards.
The new compact SUV will be competing with other vehicles on the market, like Mahindra and Mahindra?s Quanto, Ertiga of Maruti Suzuki and Renault Duster. The new vehicle will also be trying to wean away Hyundai?s i20 and prospective sedan customers of Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze.
Meanwhile, the company has already built an inventory of 5,000 units in advance of the orders, while the deliveries will begin on June 27, 2013. The MD of Ford India, Joginder Singh, said, “We expect the EcoSport to be a game changer for Ford India. It will set a new benchmark in the Indian automotive space. Based on the One Ford global platform, the product is tuned to the needs of Indian consumers.”
The new vehicles will be produced at the Chennai plant of the company and Ford India intends to export EcoSport to more than 40 countries, including the markets of South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Taiwan, as well as many parts of Europe.
