On Monday, July 8, 2013, Indian handset manufacturer Micromax launched its Canvas 4 smartphone which has been priced at Rs. 17,999. With the latest launch, the company is aiming for the number one spot in the smartphone category in the country.
Rahul Sharma, co-founder at Micromax said, “We have 24.3 per cent market share in smartphone category as on April 2013 as per Cybermedia Media Research…we want to go on top.” Micromax is expecting that the handset will be well-received by mobile phone enthusiasts and is expecting a massive demand for its Canvas series.
The company claims that it already received pre-orders for its Canvas 4. Sharma went on to say that Micromax has already sold more than a million handsets from the Canvas series in the last three months, since April 2013. The Canvas range features ten handsets, priced between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 18,000. Overall, the handset sale of the company stands at 2.2 million per month.
The Canvas 4 has an aluminum body and features of the phone include a 13-MP rear camera with image sensor and a 5-MP front camera for video calls. Additional features of the handset include 16 GB of internal storage and 1 GB of RAM. The phone is powered by Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with a battery capacity of 2,000 mAh.
