Highly-anticipated Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Chennai Express’ hit theaters on August 9, 2013. Once again, director Rohit Shetty proved that his movies never fail at the box office and the new flick broke all earlier paid previews records. The movie has collected 6.75 crore, which is the biggest paid preview collection by any Bollywood movie until now.
The movie was released on August 8, 2013 in the UK, where it received a great response from the audience. The movie had only night show previews in the UK, but despite that fact, it collected £142,220 and beat records of other Bollywood movies, like ‘Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna’, ‘My Name Is Khan’, ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Ek Tha Tiger’.
Popular movie analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the movie’s business on August 9, 2013 and wrote, “Let’s begin the day with a SMASHING news. #ChennaiExpress smashes all previous records, collects Rs 33.12 cr on Friday. Creates HISTORY.” Adarsh added, “#ChennaiExpress Thu previews 6.75 cr, Fri 33.12 cr. Total: 39.87 cr nett. India biz only. All previous records shattered. Creates History!”
‘Chennai Express’ is a film about Rahul, played by Shahrukh, who ends up in a south Indian village after he meets Meena Amma and his life takes a different turn later.
