South Korean electronics giant Samsung is all set to launch its first smartwatch in Berlin, Germany on September 4, 2013. One of the senior executives of the company said that the new device will be launched two days before the official opening of 2013 IFA consumer electronics fair.
On August 26, 2013, the executive vice president of the company’s mobile business, Lee Young-hee stated that Samsung’s smartwatch will be named Galaxy Gear and will feature a non-flexible display. Young-hee said, “We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept. 4”.
The South Korean company has been working on the product for a long time. The company executive went on to say that the latest device will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. She also assured that the Gear will add significant momentum to the mobile industry.
Meanwhile, the company is preparing to provide a tough competition to its rivals, including Sony, in order to get an upper hand in the market for wearable devices, as the smartphone market is going towards saturation.
