Indian yoga guru Baba Ramdev was on September 20, 2013 detained at the Heathrow Airport in London. The British Customs officials detained the Haryana-based spiritual leader for more than six hours at the airport. It is still not clear why the controversial leader was kept and questioned by the officials.
One of the organizers of the event Baba Ramdev was supposed to attend in London said that he was detained over the books that he was carrying, which were in Hindi and Sanskrit. Ramdev arrived in London in order to attend a function. The officials detained Ramdev for about six hours, but he was allowed to leave later on.
Some sources said that Ramdev was questioned by customs officials as he came to London on a visitor, instead of a business visa. Other media reports also claimed that the spiritual leader was questioned regarding some medicines that he was carrying with him. SK Tejarawala, the spokesperson for Ramdev said that claims that he was detained over medicines were completely baseless.
Tejarawala said, “It was not clear why the Yoga guru was detained for over six hours at Heathrow. He was not carrying anything with him except a small bag of personal effects. It is for the British authorities to explain why he was detained”. Since then, Ramdev has been allowed to go to the city.
