British operator of parks and attractions Merlin Entertainments recently announced on October 16, 2013 that it is teaming up with the leading developer in Beijing, SOHO China. The partnership between the two companies has a goal to introduce a number of iconic international brands to Beijing.
The first brand of the latest partnership will be Madame Tussauds Beijing, which is expected to open in 2014. At the moment, the global attraction giant has many successful tourist attractions in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Wuhan and Beijing is the next city on the list. The upcoming museum will be the 16th Madame Tussauds across the globe and the fourth one which will be opened in China. The location in Beijing will be opened thanks to an investment of multi-million yuan and will be located close to Tiananmen Square, in the center of the city.
Glenn Earlham, the Managing Director for Midway Attractions said that the company was very excited about the opportunity to open its first location in Beijing and stated that additional attractions will be announced in the near future.
The chairman of SOHO China Pan Shiyi said, “Merlin is one of the world’s most successful and biggest visitor attraction businesses and we are delighted to be working with them to bring one of their best known and loved global brands, Madame Tussauds, to Beijing.” The chairman went on to say that it will bring a new dimension and an international flavor to the city.
