The Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara Suvaddhana Mahathera passed away at the Chulalongkorn Hospital on, Thursday, October 24, 2013. The whole Buddhist community and the country of Thailand are mourning the death of His Holiness, who died of sepsis.
The hospital released the 9th statement on October 24, 2013, which confirmed that the overall condition of His Holiness was becoming worse, after which he died at 7:30 pm. With deep sorrow, the King also confirmed the death of the Supreme Patriarch and instructed that his body must lie in state at Phra Tamnak Petch at Wat Bowon Niwet in Bangkok.
More instructions have been given to the palace officials that they must wear black for 15 days as of October 25, 2013. The body of His Holiness will be kept at the Chulalongkorn Hospital's Wachirayannawong Building from 9 am to noon on Friday, October 25, 2013, for the public to show their respects. Later, the body will be taken to Manusayanak Witthayatharn Building at Wat Bowon Niwet.
The public will also be able to attend the bathing rite before the Supreme Patriarch's picture in the compound of Wat Bowon Niwet from 1 pm every day. A 15-day mourning period has been declared for His Holiness and flags will be lowered to half-mast for three days.
