Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel has on November 7, 2013 launched its third generation 3G services in Bangladesh. Initially, the 3G service by Airtel will be available in Dhaka and Chittagong, but the new service will be rolled out in the rest of the country in a phased way.
With the latest launch, Airtel also presented different packages to its customers. In September 2013, the company announced that its Bangladesh office has won 5Mhz of 3G spectrum in an auction, at a price of $105 million.
Chris Tobit, the CEO and Managing Director at Airtel Bangladesh said, “We are excited to offer innovative products and affordable prices of our 3G services with highest speed, innovative contents for all segments, which will mark a major milestone for Airtel in Bangladesh”. Tobit went on to say that customers can now have high speed mobile internet, HD video streaming, downloads on Airtel 3G with simple and affordable data packs, as well as file sharing.
All Airtel packages contain minimum speed of 1Mbps. The company also said that subscribers have the liberty to use the ‘pay as you go’ data usage service at the rate of 2G. As a promotional offer, customers of Airtel will get 100 percent bonus on every subscription of data pack purchase of minimum 1 GB.
