Asia Bizz: Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo Dropped as Nokia’s Chief Executive, Stephen Elop Appointed
Nokia’s New Chief Executive : Stephen Elop from Microsoft has replaced Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo as Nokia’s Chief Executive, reason being that Nokia wants to raise its work to complete against Google and Apple in the market of smartphones.
Stephen Elop is at present the head of Microsoft’s business. Mr. Elop will take charge of the position of chief executive from 21st of September onwards. Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo was Nokia’s Chief Executive for around four years.
The chairman of Nokia, Jorma Ollila said,
“The time is right to accelerate the company’s renewal; to bring in new executive leadership with different skills and strengths in order to drive company success.”
Nokia is looking hard and fast to get into the smartphone market and compete with the likes of Apple and Google and do well and Jorma Ollila feels that Stephen Elop is the right choice to do so.
He said,
“The Nokia board believes that Stephen has the right industry experience and leadership skills to realise the full potential of Nokia.”
He further added,
“We believe that Stephen will be able to drive both innovation and efficient execution of the company strategy in order to deliver increased value to our shareholders.”
Nokia is a big phone company with a lot of production and does really well with markets in Asia, and we hope to see some great smartphones by Nokia in the future.
