Smartphone manufacturing giant BlackBerry announced an offer on January 6, 2014 for the Q5, its most affordable BlackBerry 10 phone. The company is offering the handset in a special New Year offer for Rs. 19,990 for the Indian market.
BlackBerry launched the handset in July 2013 for Rs. 24,990, however, for a certain amount of time, the Q5 was being sold online for Rs. 22,999. While talking about the new offer, BlackBerry said, it was “in line with BlackBerry’s commitment towards the Indian market and will help the brand to reach out to more potential customers”. In recent times, there have been reports that the company was having difficulties with selling stocks of the Q5, as well as other smartphones.
The Director Distribution for BlackBerry India, Sameer Bhatia said that the New Year Bonanza is aiming to offer a powerful mobile device with the BlackBerry 10 OS, which will be available at an affordable price point for the company’s customers.
In recent times, the Canadian company has been facing tough competition against other smartphone giants like Apple and Samsung. New and innovative smartphones from other companies affected sales of the BlackBerry devices in the past few months. Moreover, the company has been taking its popular messenger BBM to other operating systems, in order to make additional revenue in the upcoming months.
