The top executives of Apple Inc and China Mobile Ltd revealed that they have teamed up in order to sell more products in China. Reports say that the two companies have joined hands in the iPad sector. The US-based tech giant has created a partnership with China Mobile Ltd, which is the biggest telecom carrier in the world with a user base of 760 million.
The partnership will mark a new beginning for the two companies. The chairman of China Mobile, Xi Guohua compared the six years of constant negotiations with the American company with a long courtship. The deal between the two companies was finally reached on December 23, 2013 and Xi joked that Apple and China Mobile have entered a happy marriage.
The news was announced by Xi at a briefing with the chief executive officer of Apple, Tim Cook at China Mobile’s Beijing headquarters on January 15, 2014. The agreement signed in December 2013 has mentioned that China Mobile is going to sell the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C handsets on its fourth generation network on the Chinese mainland starting from Friday, January 17, 2014.
The 16 GB iPhone 5S handset has been priced at 5,488 yuan according to the contract fee and customers can select a monthly payment varying from 138 yuan to 588 yuan. Pre-orders of the handset began on December 25, 2013 and they have already surpassed the 1-million mark.
