Japanese multinational corporation Nikon announced on March 20, 2014 that it is hoping for a 20 percent growth when it comes to the digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera segment in the Indian market during 2014 and 2015. Hiorshi Takashina, the managing director of Nikon India said that the company expects a steady growth in the coming year and that they would expand with an additional 20 percent growth.

Nikon releases new DSLR cameras for Indian market

It has been reported that the total market size of DSLR cameras in the country during 2013 and 2014 was 3 lakh units and the number is expected to increase to 3.6 lakh in the upcoming financial year. With this in mind, Nikon should be able to maintain its leading position in India with 55 percent market share. Nikon India – which is a fully owned subsidiary of Nikon Corporation – revealed two new DSLR cameras on March 20, 2014 – D4S and D3300.

Regardless of the slowdown in the economy, the company is expecting to generate Rs 1,050 crore in revenue by the end of the current financial year which ends on March 31, 2014 and has set a new target of Rs 1,100 crore for 2014 and 2015. At the moment, Nikon India contributes approximately 3 percent of its global turnover and the number is expected to increase to 5 percent in the upcoming three years.

Nikon will be airing TV commercials in order to promote its brand new DSLR cameras starting from mid-April 2014 and they will feature popular Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, Nikon’s brand ambassador.
