The Shanghai resort – which features the first Disneyland located on the Chinese mainland – will have an additional luxury shopping compound close to the theme park in the near future. The new addition will be built on the premises in order to increase visitor’s consumption potential.
The operator of the Shanghai International Tourism and Resort Zone, Shanghai Shendi Group announced on March 24, 2014 a joint venture with Value Retail – the retail outlet developer – and together they will build a luxury shopping compound right next to the Shanghai Disney Resort. The chairman of Value Retail, Scott Malkin said that the upcoming shopping compound – which is known as the Shanghai Village – will be ‘the most important tourism outlet shopping location in Asia’.
The area is spread across 50,000 square meters and the compound will have many international and Asian brand stores, in addition to restaurants and cafes and is expected to open in the fall 2015. The developer has earlier built and opened a similar shopping center next to the Disneyland in Paris. Moreover, the company is all set to open its first ever shopping compound in China in May 2014, which will be located in the tourist city of Suzhou in Jiangsu province.
The chairman of Shanghai Shendi Group, Fan Xiping said that the shopping compound will be the SITRZ’s second iconic project, following the Shanghai Disneyland.
