Samsung has launched its new Galaxy S5 smartphone in the Indian market. The tech giant revealed that the new device will have a price tag of Rs. 51,500 and will be available as of Friday, April 11, 2014.
The South Korean company revealed the latest handset at the Mobile World Congress which was held in Barcelona in February 2014 and pre-bookings of the device started on March 29, 2014. The Samsung India Country Head, Vineet Taneja in a statement said, “We are very encouraged by the pre-booking response for the S5 which is three times higher than that for the S4”.
The company also revealed that it has sold about 3.5 crore Galaxy handsets in the Indian market until now. The new S5 has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display which is similar to the previous handset, Galaxy S4 and it runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. The device is powered by an octa-core processor and comes with 2 GB of RAM, as well as 16 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128 GB.
Additional features of the smartphone include a 16-megapixel camera, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera with 2800 mAh battery. The S5 also has a finger scanner similar to that found in Apple’s iPhone 5S with biometric screen-locking system and a safe mobile payment system.
