A new mobile application has been launched by the Centre for Railways and Information Systems, which is the information and technology arm of railways. The new application can be used by the smartphone users for various inquiries including train timings.
The Train schedule feature in the application features the complete schedule of train with all the information on the stoppages on the route including the scheduled arrival and departure at the station, distance as well as day count. The application also has a ‘cancelled train’ option which displays the trains which are cancelled.
It also displays the trains which are cancelled through the entire route with the trains which are cancelled on partial route. Moreover, it provides features for the query on the rescheduled and diverted trains. The National Train inquiry system is the back end system of the railways which provides information to the public about the train schedules on a near real time basis.
It makes use of various interfaces like nationwide unique rail inquiry number 139, mobile interfaces, touch screens, website, inquiry counters and display boards at the stations. The new application is available for download for free for the smartphones which run on Windows Phone 8.0. The PTI has assured that the app will soon be developed for other platforms also.
