One of the officials from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) stated on Sunday, April 27, 2014 that prosecutors in China will improve supervision over officials’ dereliction of duty when it comes to work safety incidents. It is expected that prosecutors will target officials’ malpractice which has resulted in big accidents or even the delay of rescue operations.

Moreover, the official went on to say that supervision priorities will be given to the transportation of dangerous chemicals, natural gas, environment, food safety and infrastructure construction.

The SPP official also explained that officials are not supposed cover up, postpone or provide any false information related to work safety accidents or tell others to do so. It has been reported that from 2008 to 2013, about 5,500 officials have been under investigation or prosecuted for dereliction of duty in over 4,000 cases. The SPP figures added that prosecutors have recovered economic losses which are worth more than 2 billion yuan.

The work safety issue gained plenty of attention in recent times and officials have become stricter when it comes to paying more attention towards work safety.
