Chinese company announced that it would hold a launch meeting in Beijing on May 15, 2014, but did not reveal too many details about the launch, or the product itself. Sources familiar with the situation said that it is not certain whether the company would launch the tablet at the event. Xiaomi managed to reach the number 5 spot in the Chinese market during the final quarter of 2013.

The company’s figures are impressive against other emerging smartphone makers in the market, which also have lower-priced products. These companies are also creating new opportunities for parts suppliers in Japan, which include display makers such as Japan Display Corp and Sharp Corp. Such companies improve their offers with high-specification features in order to compete with international brands. Xiaomi has listed Sharp as a display supplier on its official website and sources say that Sharp will also make the upcoming displays for the Xiaomi tablet.

In 2013, Xiaomi released the Mi 3 smartphone, which sold 100,000 units in just 90 seconds.
