Asia Bizz: Akai Mobiles Enter The Indian Mobile Market

A new competitor has entered in the Indian mobile phone market, Akai, as it has come in with 10 new models in India. Akai is not a new brand for India, as it has been here for more than a decade now, basically dealing in household appliances. Akai has launched 10 new mobiles into the Indian market with a price range from Rs. 1800 to Rs. 8000.

The price range is set in such a way that it will be attracting customers from all segments, and Akai feels that by the end of September, they will have sold some 20000 units. Akai India MD, Dhabhai, stated that the company has aimed to munch in a big share in the Rs. 700 billion Indian mobile phone market.

He also added that later on they will be venturing into other products like inverters, netbooks, wire less phones, and cellphone accessories. Akai also has plans to bring in 3G mobile phones by the end of 2010.
