New Indian Prime Minister – Narendra Modi – is likely to form a separate ministry for the mountain range of the Himalayas. The Himalayan range is the youngest mountain range which has adventure, mystique and business opportunities.
The Modi administration backed by the winning party – BJP – is thinking of setting up a nodal agency which can be launched as a separate ministry in the upcoming cabinet expansion. The new Himalayan agency will help to tackle some of the issues ranging from tourism, ecology, trade and security.
Reports say that former Loksabha speaker and veteran leader PA Sangma is one of the front leaders in the effort. While talking to the media Sangama said, that he has welcomed the idea but refuses to comment on the speculation that he will be leading the effort. The leader said, “It is a good idea to have a dedicated agency for the entire Himalayan region.”
People who are familiar with the issue say that the latest mission can take the shape of a ministry, authority or commission which will have a political chairman with the rank of a cabinet minister, who is familiar or associated with the region.
