Restrictions on internet Tv content providers in China to increase.

Set top box providers in China might be in for some serious trouble with the law for having violated broadcast rules. A statement issued by the State General Administration of Press Publication, Radio, Film and Television said that set top boxes which stream shows from online Chinese video sites, games, music and other services are under the suspicion of working with unlicensed online program providers.

Devices like Tmall Magic Box which have the backing of e-commerce giant – Alibaba Group Holding Ltd – provide third party online video applications like Youku, iQiyi and Sohu. These connections also provide support for viewers accessing content which is obscene in nature or endangering political consensus, said the regulators.

Internet TV content providers including Wasu Media & Network Co Ltd and BesTV New Media CO Ltd have been instructed to shut down download channels from the applications which belong to third parties.

The government of China has tightened its noose around internet Tv content providers by imposing several law, one such example would be that set top boxes manufacturers are only permitted to get content from seven licensed internet-television content providers in the country.
