e-retail giant Amazon will soon be opening its first retail store in New York City.
World’s largest online retailer Amazon.com may soon open its first physical retail store in New York City. The firm reportedly has plans to open the store at a prime Mid town Manhattan location. The site will serve as both a mini-warehouse for same-day delivery support, returns and order pickups within New York.
As per reports, the new store may open in time for the holiday shopping season, showcasing Amazon’s proprietary products, such as Kindle e-readers and tablets, Fire smartphones and video-streaming boxes.
As of now, only a handful retailers sell Kindle and other products. If successful, the company may expand to other cities. So far, Amazon has massively capitalized on its Internet-based business model, saving immensely on its physical presence across the world.
Over the past few years, it has however been noticed that the company has launched certain initiatives that mandated a physical presence in cities. Starting from storage for temporarily holding packages for customers after purchase, and expansion of grocery and same-day delivery, which requires a maintained local distribution centre. Although rare, the firm has also set up pop-up stores in malls.
