The popular belief among people is that WeChat is an SMS replacement option wherein people can send each other messages for really cheap over the internet. However, the company that owns the app wants to build it into something much bigger. This is where they are planning to introduce a gaming and wallet option in India.

WeChat wallet is already very popular in China, where users can send each other money and shop online, alongside chatting with friends. This feature will be launched in India very soon. Nilay Arora, VP Marketing and Business Development said, “We are an all-round social communication platform and not just an SMS replacement app like WhatsApp.”

Like Twitter, WeChat also has a verified accounts page, where consumers can connect with brands directly and they can address any grievances. WeChat began its operations in India in 2013 and since then, the user base has grown multifold. The application is owned by Chinese investment holding company Tencent.
