Finally, a self-driving car by tech giant Google.
AsiaBizz.com: Search engine giant Google announced that it is all set to test the prototype of its self-driving car on December 22, 2014. The search engine giant announced the progress on its social network Google + (Google plus).
The first mockup publicized in March did not have headlights either.
The statement said, “We’re going to be spending the holidays zipping around our test track, and we hope to see you on the streets of Northern California in the new year”. Google had announced its plans in May 2014 when it said that a prototype was on the works and it would not have some of the typical features including the steering wheel.
Chris Urmson from Google revealed in a blog post that it will not have a steering wheel, a brake pedal or accelerator pedal and will run on just a software and sensors. However, the internet titan has not yet revealed the technical specifications in its announcement on December 22, 2014. Google has reportedly aimed to create a car which is different from those driven by chauffeurs and will just have a stop and go function.
The self-driving car is expected to be battery-powered and the prototypes will have a top speed of 40 kilometers per hour. The cars will be designed for utility purposes and not for luxury and this will mark the first time a fully autonomous car will be introduced in the market at a time when other auto makers are looking forward to introducing autonomous or semi- autonomous cars.
