Officials said that the search area of the missing Malaysian flight will be extended if nothing is found in the current search zone. The announcement was made by the Australian, Chinese and Malaysian ministers , who discussed the progress.

Predictions are being made that the missing flight might have been crashed off the Western Australia but so far not a single trace has been found. The Malaysian flight flying to the Kuala Lumpur from Beijing disappeared on March 8, 2014 with 239 people on board.

The search team at present is using sophisticated sonar equipment and are searching in a 60,000 sq km area of seabed far west of the city of Perth in Australia. 40% of the area is yet to be searched. If nothing is found in the current area, then the search will be extended to another 60,000 sqkm area that will cover the highest probability area that is identified by the expert analysis.

A statement from the ministers said that search in the additional area will take a time of at least a year due to the adverse weather conditions. The investigators still do not have any idea what happened to the flight that disappeared. Still no explanation has been given as to why the flight has flown so far.
