The chief executive of the Apa Group, Toshio Motoya announced that it is looking forward to the goal so as to increase the number of visitors to Japan.
The hotel chain is planning to open a hotel in the port city of Yokohama and will have 2,400 rooms. The place is 40 kms south from Tokyo. The city is experiencing a 29% increase in the room rates after an increase in tourist rates in 2014.
Motoya in an interview said, “With the possibility that Yokohama might host a casino, the city will attract more people and that’s good for us”. The Chief also referred to the ongoing argument over the legalization of casino gambling. The Apa has been extending its fleet in the country to cater the increasing number of visitors in the country which gets 20 million visitors a year an increase from 13.4 million in 2014.
The figure was achieved due to the relaxation of visa restrictions and also the broadening of the range of goods available tax free.
