Search engine giant Google has removed the Indian e-commerce payment system Paytm from the Playstore on September, 18, 2020 in India. A number of media reports have said that the search engine pulled down the app as it constantly violated its gambling policies. Paytm has more than 50 million active users monthly and is owned by One97 Communications LTD. The fantasy sports service by Paytm had a number of times violated the policies by Google that were laid out in terms of online gambling.
The app is known as the Paytm First Games and has been pulled down from the Play Store. Suzanne Frey, the vice president of Product, Android Security and Privacy at Google has explained that they have laid down these policies so as to protect the users from any potential harm. When any of the apps on the store is seen violating the policies then the developer of the app is notified about the violation and is removed it from Google Play till the tile the developer makes changes in the app in compliance with the policies.
Suzanne added that they follow the same in terms of their gambling policy and have not allowed any online casinos and don’t support any of the gambling apps that are not regulated and that facilitate sports betting. This also includes the cases where the consumers are redirected to an external website that allows them to participate in some of the tournaments that need the gamers to pay and win real money or cash prizes. These are all the things that violate the policies of Google.
On the other hand, soon after the app was removed, the company released a statement which said that they would be back soon. The statement said that the Paytm Android app is currently not available for new downloads or updates and will be back soon. It has also assured that all the money of the users is in safe hands and that they will be able to enjoy their app as normal very soon.
