Asia Bizz: LimeWire File Sharing Service Has Been Shut Down By Order Of US Court

LimeWire the file sharing service and application has been forced to shut down by the order of the US Federal Court. The termination of this file sharing peer to peer service is marked as a major victory for the music and film industry, all over the world. This application allowed the users to download unlimited song’s, movies and other downloadable content for free and illegally from the web.

As per the statement issued by the court, it reads “the searching, downloading, uploading, file trading and/or file distribution functionality, and/or all functionality, must now be switched off”. The software availability on the web would be closed down very soon and the software installed on the computers would be disabled.

The legal battle between RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and LimeWire has been raging since 2006, where the Association states that 93% of the material available on LimeWire has infringed copyrights. The owners of LimeWire, the Lime Group will be receiving the legal notice very soon and it will be leaving its illegal download service behind and would commence a proper legal LimeWire service in the coming weeks.
