Asia Bizz: 2G Spectrum Case: Attorney General to Represent PM

The government has called the Attorney General Goolam E Vahanavati to represent the Prime Minister in the 2G spectrum case hearing in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The Solicitor General, Gopal Subramaniam will only represent the Department of Telecommunication (DoT), who was so far representing the Government. “It is not a question of replacement but of better coordination. I will continue to represent the central government and the Department of Telecom on the issue while the Attorney General will represent the Prime Minister,” Subramanium said.

The Government was asked to file a petition on Thursday by the Supreme Court, on behalf of the Prime Minister, in response to the plea to seek sanction to prosecute A. Raja, ex-Telecom Minister in the 2G spectrum case. Earlier his week the Apex court said that the matter is extremely serious and that the alleged silence is not good.

The parliamentary proceedings during the winter session were paralyzed due to the 2G scam. Both the houses were adjourned till 12 pm on Friday morning, as soon as they opened for business.
