Mahela Jayawardene scored a sparkling 6th test double century to put Sri Lanka in control of the first test against India at the Motera on Wednesday.
Day three of the opening Test belongs completely to Sri Lanka. They did not put a foot wrong today and are now in a commanding position with a lead of 165 runs.
Mahela Jayawardena has an ability to concentrate for long hours on the field and he provided another example of it, scoring his sixth double ton in Test matches. The elegant batsman countered the new ball well and found the gap with ease throughout the day. He shared an unbeaten 216 partnership with Prassana Jayawardene, who hit his third half century and is now 16 short of his second Test century.
The sixth wicket stand is also the new Sri Lankan record for the highest partnership. The Indian bowlers had nothing to cheer about and leaked runs. India cannot afford to be average tomorrow and need to bowl out Lanka as quickly as possible
