Asia Bizz: Onion has made people around India cry after its prices were sky high, but reports have come in stating the bulk price of this vegetable has dropped and retail prices still remained dearer. The prices have been dropped in the state of Maharashtra, India’s leading onion producing state, but still the retail prices everywhere still remained high.

The opposition leaders are now blaming each other and also the central government because of the massive price surge in one of the most common vegetables in India. In retail markets around country, prices touched to a maximum of Rs.85/Kg, and in some other parts of Maharashtra it was nearing Rs.75/kg.

Pranab Mukherjee, the Finance Minister, has stated that it a point of worry and concern, as this price surge should be contained soon. On the other hand the government has doubled the export prices for Onion and the Center has announced that the prices will remain high for at least 2-3 weeks. India had even started importing Onions from Pakistan and was distributing the vegetable around the country, this is the first time that India has imported something from Pakistan in more than 10 years.
