Asia Bizz: Mahindra Thar, the latest off road vehicle has been launched in India and will be priced between Rs.6-8 lakhs. The Thar has its legacy with India and is in one way its a rebirth of a legend. The Thar is based on the Mahindra Classic models, which were in production more than a decade back in India, but later their production was stopped because of the strict emission norms.
The Mahindra Thar was launched in South Africa and Europe, where it is also considered as a direct rival to the Jeep Wrangler. This new offering by Mahindra comes with an all new BS Stage IV 2.5L engine that punches out 105BHp with a promising decent mileage.
Its a complete off-road butch vehicle, which is loaded with a four wheel independent drive feature. To power the off road system the vehicle comes fitted with a five speed Borg Warner gear box. Its not completely discarded from luxury features, but it does come with a standard air conditioning system and also with a power steering that will help the driver to find some comfort over long stretches of travel.
