Ford Ikon in India

In the month of January 2011, Ford sold not even a single Ikon in the country. The dip in sales of the Ford Ikon started when Ford stopped manufacturing the car in 13 cities across India as it did not meet the BS-IV norms. This also resulted in the dealers based in BS-III cities to reduce the number of Ikon cars sold.

The Ikon was an instant hit in India as it was priced well and was a good car for the middle class driver. The Ford Ikon was a very important model for Ford India since its launch in 1999. The car was launched in three engine models, one diesel and two petrol models. In 2005, Ford India discontinued the 1.6-litre Rocam petrol version as well as the 1.7-litre diesel engine. The Ikon continued with the 1.3-litre Rocam veion rsas well as the 1.3-litre push-rod petrol model.

A few years later in the month of December 2008, Ford Ikon launched the diesel model again with the Ford Ikon TDCi model. The engines of the Ford Fiesta and Figo are the same. We will still have to wait for an official word from Ford India regarding the Ford Ikon.
