Asia Bizz: Kyodo News will start a new digital company in order to strengthen its digital services, as well as to develop its relations with its existing subscribers in Japan. Kyodo News announced their plans on the 31st of March 2011.


The new division by Kyodo News will be called Kyodo News Digital Co, and will be funded by 100 million yen. Kyodo News will own the new digital agency totally with 100 percent stake.

Executive director of Kyodo News, Masaki Fukuyama will also head the division as President for the new firm. The digital firm will start of with a strength of 20 people. The plans of Kyodo News Digital Co are mainly to focus on providing digital content very similar to NEWSmart and will also focus on common people to participate offer their own news.

Kyodo News was established in the year 1945 and distributes news to a lot of news networks in Japan from newspaper, radio and television. Kyodo also remains the last news agency to distribute news via radiofax. Kyodo News is a non profit agency and is based out of Minato, Tokyo.
