Asia Bizz: Wipro Chairman Azim Premji has pledged a whopping Rs. 10,000 crore towards school projects across India. The move by the Indian billionaire is all set to compete against thee richest men in the world – American billionaires and philanthropists Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. The CEO of the Azim Premji Foundation, Mr. Dilip Ranjekar, made the announcement on Wednesday in Latur, India.
In an official announcement, Ranjekar said that the charity organization will build schools in 2 districts, including Latur, and the current aim is to recruit good teachers who in turn, will mold the finest students in the nation. The reason the foundation has focused on education is because the current system in India focuses only on scoring good marks and disregards the true ability of children, which these new schools hope to tap on.
Following the footsteps of his counterparts Buffett and Gates in their role in spreading education worldwide, Azim Premji’s charitable organization plans to do the same. Education courses will cover not only primary and secondary, but also post-graduate courses.
The whole aim of the school project is to bring out teachers who are well equipped in a specialized subject, since the current scenario in India has 1 teacher juggling a number of subjects due to the shortage of specialized staff in the nation.
