Asia Bizz: Steel manufacturing giant Essar Steel on Thursday, announced that it has become the first company in India to supply heavy plates for the Indian Navy. Essar announced that it has been approved by the Government of India to supply steel plates for the building of strategic warships.
The company had issued a statement, in which it had been announced that Essar has become the first company in the Asian country that has been recognized to supply steel for the building of war ships for the Indian Navy. The Navy will be using the heavy plates for the manufacturing of defense ships.
This is first time that Mazagaon Dock (MDL) has placed an order from a domestic steel mill. The company in the statement has said that the plate mill has a capacity of producing 1.5 million tones annually, and that MDL has ordered for around 13,000 tonnes of plates.
Moreover, it has also got state-of-the-art equipment and controls, with unique and highly advanced technology courtesy of Siemens Voest Alpine. The statement also mentioned that the mill is one of its kind in the country, and can produce 5 meter wide plates that can be compared to global standards.
Essar has also claimed that their products are ultra strong, weather resistant and are widely exported.
