Asia Bizz: Japanese automobile manufacturer, Toyota, has announced its new car in its hatchback segment, Toyota Liva. The new Toyota Liva will be launched on 27th June 2011 in the Indian market and has already started to give a major competition in the small car market in India.

The Toyota Liva is expected to give a tough competition to the already existing hatchbacks as well as small cars in the Indian market, as it may be priced between Rs. 4 lakh to 6 lakhs. The top version of the car will be having anti-braking system and multiple airbags.

The Liva will be powered by a 1.2 litre engine, and the features of the car will make it the cheapest car in its segment. The new hatchback will be competing against the cars like Nissan Micra, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i20, Maruti Swift, Fiat Punto and Skoda Fabia.

The prices of the already existing hatchbacks start from 4.3 lakhs and go more than 8 lakhs, when it comes to the different variants. Abdul Majeed, the Pricewaterhouse Coopers Auto Practice leader, has said that the prices are the first phase of the competition. Recently, even Honda announced a price cut in Honda City due to the competition received by Volkswagen Vento. Now Honda is planning to launch its small car Honda Brio this year.
